If there’s one thing I learned while living in Calgary with little kids, it’s that winter can feel very long. Especially when the temperatures plummet, making it difficult to head outdoors. To make it through those long winter months with my sanity intact, I scoped out tons of indoor playgrounds in Calgary. After visiting venues all over the city, I narrowed this list down to the 5 best indoor play areas in Calgary.
Sky Castle Indoor Playground – Rocky View County
Sky Castle Indoor Playground, located just north of Calgary in the New Horizon Mall, is actually made up of two separate play areas. One is a traditional indoor playground and the other, located just across the hall, is set up like a miniature town where children can engage in imaginative play! Both play areas are not only huge and packed full of fun, they’re also some of the most beautiful indoor play areas we’ve ever seen!

Some of our favourite things about Sky Castle Indoor Playground include the giant foam pit with a mini castle and slide, ninja obstacle course, and the many slides of varying height, speed and twisty-ness. We also love that little ones have their own toddler play area complete with little climbers, slides and a ball tube wall. In the mini town, we love that kids can pretend to shop in a miniature grocery store, take care of sick patients at the hospital, or give each other makeovers at the little salon.

If you’re looking for a Calgary Indoor Play Area that will keep your kids occupied with active AND imaginative play for hours – add Sky Castle to the top of your must-visit list!

Kidz Go Indoor Playground – Southeast Calgary
Kidz Go Indoor Playground, located in Southeast Calgary, is one of our personal favourite indoor play areas in Calgary. It’s got tons of unique features that my kids go crazy for. We especially love this indoor play area for toddlers because of it’s amazing toddler zone!

The toddler zone includes a colourful ball pit with slides and a moving carousel. Outside the toddler zone, my 2 year old’s favourite thing about Kidz Go was driving the power jeeps around the miniature race track. Older kids will love the enormous climbing structure with a variety of unique bridges and slides as well as the giant volcano with tube slides. For the tiniest visitors, there is an infant zone with a very mini climber and tons of ride-on vehicles.

The Big Box Indoor Playground – Northeast Calgary
The Big Box Family Entertainment Hub, located in Northeast Calgary, is the next on our list of the best indoor playgrounds in Calgary. We especially love the unique play features for kids at The Big Box. My kids’ favourites include the air ball gun area, the huge inflatable playground with a toddler area and obstacle course, as well as the building zone with huge lego style blocks!

For an extra fee, older kids will love The Big Box’s bumper cars and aerial obstacle course! There are also arcade games and small rides for toddlers.

Creative Kids Museum at Telus Spark – Northeast Calgary
The Creative Kids Museum, located in the Telus Spark Science Centre, is not exactly an indoor playground, as much as a unique and engaging indoor play area for kids in Calgary. The Creative Kids Museum is full of tons of exciting features that engage children in learning through play. Our absolute favourite feature in the play area is the huge water play zone where children can send small boats floating down the little river. We also love the climbing structure, cooperative ball drop with tubes and a pulley system, maker space, bubble organ and miniature theatre with lights and music for tiny performers!

There is also a fantastic toddler play area for children 3 and under. This area has a ball sort, light table, as well as tiny rockers, slides and climbers.

And there is so much more – way more than we can describe in just one quick section of our blog post. If you’ve never been to the Creative Kids Museum, this is one you absolutely must add to your list of places to visit with kids in Calgary!

Flying Squirrel – Northeast and Southeast Calgary
Ok so Flying Squirrel is not exactly an indoor playground but it is absolutely a fantastic indoor place for kids to play and burn off their seemingly endless energy. In addition to the many trampolines of various sizes, this indoor play place has a climbing wall with a drop into a foam pit, slack lines, rope swings and a wiggle ladder. There is also an inflatable park, foam jousting and a separate kiddie zone for the littlest jumpers!

There are two Flying Squirrel locations in Calgary – one in the Northeast and one in the Southeast.
